About

Meet Richard, the founder of TMG.

Hi, I’m Richard, founder of TMG – The Mindful Group.

Years ago, when I was working as a lawyer at a big ‘Magic Circle’ firm I noticed two things: one new and one an exacerbation of something I’d wrestled with my whole life.

Starting with the latter; I noticed that the under-lying, low-level social anxiety which seemed to characterize my childhood and adolescence was spiking.  It wasn’t debilitating.  I could still muddle through and produce the work required to an acceptable standard.  In fact, externally, there may not have been many indicators as to what was going on inside.  Internally however, I felt a growing unease and anxiousness which was made exponentially worse during busy times in the office when stress would be lavishly layered on top!

In times like these, I could really feel the strain.  My work product certainly took a hit, not to mention my well-being.

Fragmented Focus and Attention

I also noticed a new phenomenon; my attention and focus was becoming more and more fragmented.

Given the sheer volume of stuff fighting for our focus, it’s hardly surprising that most of us are finding it increasingly difficult to give our attention to the things that actually matter; both professionally and personally.  With perpetually filled inboxes, buzzing phones and the entire ‘attention economy’ all vying for our focus – it’s a fight most of us are losing!

I established TMG in order to share practices, tools and techniques to overcome these common challenges.  Practices I’ve used working in the City, working as a professional actor and even when delivering training programmes around the world.  These practices will not only help you win the technological tug-of-war for our focus and attention but will help you effectively manage stress, increase resilience, reduce anxiety and emotional reactivity, plus improve relationships and connection.

More Productive, Less Stressed, More Connected, More Resilient

Long before Covid-19 was on the scene these skills and benefits were increasingly important; now, they are inescapably essential if we are to successfully navigate the new terrain of our professional and personal lives.

TMG marries my experience as a City Lawyer with techniques learned via the Method Acting studio (which I still attend, currently virtually!), plus a near decade of Meditation practice and a wealth of experience delivering training and coaching to business leaders and lawyers around the world.

TMG has a pool of vastly experienced trainers, coaches, psychologists and mindfulness practitioners ready to help you and your teams lead more productive, less stressed, more connected, more resilient, happier lives.

We can’t wait to start working with you!
